Work Zones Case Study
Bespoke Software Development for Cheshire
Work Zones
Cheshire Work Zones, set up by the local authority, support adults across west Cheshire by offering services that improve employability and job-search skills.
To strengthen their operations, they needed a reliable database system to manage customer records, monitor progress, and produce key reports for senior management.
Quickly identifying those with the highest level of need and creating tailored action plans was essential to their mission.
Simplicity
The system had to support remote access across multiple sites in the region, accommodating staff and managers with different roles and permissions.
Senior management from the commissioning authority also required visibility. While an Access database had been introduced as a temporary measure to manage the Work Zones, it was always intended to be replaced with a more robust, fully featured solution.
Project Plan
We transformed outdated processes into an interactive prototype, working closely with staff to refine it at every stage.
Their feedback shaped the draft system into a streamlined, ready-to-launch solution for the entire organisation.
Full-Time, Regional Use
The system is used daily across the region, enabling staff to capture customer details in real time during interviews through a simple, user-friendly wizard.
Designed for People, Not Tech
Non-technical staff can focus on supporting customers rather than struggling with software. The system is intuitive, unobtrusive, and built to make their jobs easier.
Supporting the Mission
From managing sensitive customer data to producing senior management reports, the system empowers staff to deliver excellent service while staying compliant and efficient.
Stronger Support for Job Seekers
Cheshire Work Zones were built to help adults improve employability and job-hunting skills. By quickly identifying those most in need and creating tailored action plans, the service ensures no one gets left behind.
Simple, Accessible System
The database was designed for ease of use across multiple sites, with role-based access for staff, managers, and senior leadership. Even non-technical staff can use it confidently, keeping the focus on supporting customers.
From Temporary Fix to Lasting Solution
Originally running on a short-term Access database, the Work Zones needed a more capable and sustainable system. The new platform delivers exactly that—robust, reliable, and ready for the future.
Collaborative Development
The system was shaped by staff themselves. Through mock-ups, trials, and feedback, we refined the solution into a practical tool that works seamlessly in real situations, ensuring it truly meets the needs of both staff and customers.
