Initially, spreadsheets were used to model data management needs, but the goal was to develop a professional system capable of efficiently handling large volumes of information.

Terrabase delivered a tailored, cost-effective solution through detailed collaboration with the team. The web-based system now enables real-time attendance tracking and centralized record management, supporting students and staff across all Imperial College campuses.

Real-Time Attendance Tracking

Lecturers can record attendance instantly as students arrive, with a registration process that’s fast, reliable, and optimised for tablet use. For large cohorts of 300+ students, the system also supports swipe-card check-ins to streamline entry and reduce delays.

Flexible Marking System

The platform supports a wide range of assessment methods, from oral exams and written assignments to practical work and beyond, with the ability to apply customised weightings. Results are presented in a clear, accessible format, making it easy for departmental auditors and staff to review and validate assessment data.

Powerful Insights & Reporting

Hundreds of staff rely on the system daily to generate critical reports that track the department’s key performance indicators for university oversight and external audits.

The system proactively detects students with attendance concerns and sends them email notifications to request additional information.
